A Hobart City Council planning meeting was adjourned for the second time in recent weeks due to an insufficient number of councilors in attendance.

Chair Mike Dutta waited for 30 minutes before reluctantly cancelling the meeting on Wednesday night, expressing his deep disappointment.

“I want to extend a welcome and also apologies for the delay in starting the meeting. Unfortunately, we do not have a quorum, which is why we had to wait for half an hour,” Dutta explained.

“With only five of us present, we once again find ourselves needing to adjourn this meeting, which is incredibly disappointing for me as the chair and for our community members.”

Among the 12 councillors listed on the meeting agenda, only Gemma Kitsos, Ben Lohberger, Bill Harvey, Zelinda Sherlock, and Dutta were present.

Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds, Ryan Posselt, and Will Coats offered apologies, while Marti Zucco, Louise Elliot, John Kelly, and Louise Bloomfield were absent.

A quorum for a council committee meeting requires more than half of the committee's councillors to be present for the meeting to proceed.

Following a previous cancellation on May 22 due to the same issue, the planning meeting had last successfully convened on June 5.
