Offcourt Sports: New Community Program Hits the Courts at Swisherr

Last Month, Offcourt Sports hosted its first public court hire and community session at Swisherr Hoops Academy in Hobart. This new initiative aims to introduce more people to the sport of Pickleball and connect the community with court specialist experts, including Will Ponsonby and Mark Steczkowicz. With over 25 years of combined experience and roles as board members and presidents of associations like Badminton Tasmania and the STBA, Will and Mark bring a wealth of knowledge to these sessions.

The program not only encourages participation in pickleball but also provides attendees with the opportunity to consult with Offcourt Sports staff for advice and product recommendations. The sessions are affordably priced at $10 per hour, with all necessary equipment provided, including a variety of demo products available for purchase through Offcourt Sports.

rising pickleball player and local DJ Declan Etherington stated that the program is great, not only for expanding the sport, but provides more options to participate in the Hobart CBD, which lacks dedicated pickleball social sessions unlike Kingston or the Eastern Shore. Declan is a leading and one of the few young players in the state, and would like to see more youth engagement and expansion of the sport as it's rapid growth across the nation provides young people a massive opportunity to engage and get in early.

As a result of this growth, it has drawn the attention of local schools (both public and private), who have decided to accommodate the sport into their HPE budgets for the foreseeable future.
